This excellent book is probably most appropriate for upper elementary or middle school students. It is very informative and makes a nice prelude to a lesson on Martin Luther King or peace work in general. It does a good job of illustrating that being peaceful doesn't necessarily mean allowing others to push you around. My kids found the part about the people walking to the sea and making their own salt, in violation of British law, quite interesting.
