I have barely scratched the surface of the study aspect of this book. I'm currently working (and trying to develop my own chord melody arrangement) on "Goodbye Porkpie Hat," though I've read and played a few other tunes. Some of the tunes are presented for small ensembles w/ separate parts for various instruments. Other songs are given lead sheets. Overall, I'd say this book is so good that it's motivated me to up my own music study effort. The chords and melodies (and the keys in some cases) are noticeably different from what's found in your usual fake books. For that reason alone, it's worth the price of admission. The background info about Mingus's life, while brief, was both interesting and respectful -- as one would expect, given that his widow was central to the project.
